The Orygen and Orygen Youth Health facility in Parkville, designed by BLP and completed in 2018, occupies a three-storey building in Royal Park. It houses offices, consulting suites, training spaces, outdoor decks and a café. The photography was commissioned by BLP to record the completed building.

Set among bush and open parkland, the building relates closely to its surroundings, and that relationship shaped the photography. Exposed timber runs throughout the interior and gives the spaces a warmth that carries into the images. Natural light and views of the landscape were essential to making the photographs work, and each view was framed to show what the design set out to achieve.

The scale of the building meant three days on site. Privacy requirements ruled out photographing Orygen’s patients and staff, so BLP staff stood in as patients and staff, directed on the day so that the spaces could be seen in use.
